The MMTC was created in 1966 and today brings together more than 50 organizations from four continents. MMTC member organizations serve all those who live from their work, whether formal or informal, or from alternative income.
The MMTC is a movement whose training is based on action. Member associations carry out awareness-raising and ongoing training activities with the aim of creating bonds of solidarity and encouraging their members to actively participate in social change. It is a holistic training, a training of commitment, that encompasses all aspects of life. The MMTC uses the “see-judge-act” method, also known as “life review.”
The ultimate goal of this joint training effort is to improve the living conditions of all workers and their families. To enable its members to contribute to this positive evolution of society, the MMTC calls upon them to engage with social organizations, such as trade unions, and other grassroots organizations. It also encourages them to give a political dimension to their commitments.
The Gospel message is a primary source of inspiration for the MMTC. Based on the Gospel, the MMTC upholds the personal dignity of every man and woman. It rejects a purely materialistic view of humanity and the world. The Gospel invites us to make a preferential option for the poor, the weak, and the vulnerable. It proclaims the equal value of all human beings through a fundamental principle: we are all brothers and sisters, since we are all children of the same Father. The MMTC is recognized by the Catholic Church as an association of the faithful. It brings the Church closer to the world of work and, at the same time, allows the voice of workers to be heard within the Church and their contribution to be valued.
The member organizations of the MMTC support all workers, regardless of race or religion. Everywhere they go, they find people who share their commitment to solidarity and to decent work in a new society. Likewise, they welcome all those who share their vision and respect their Christian identity. They are open to collaboration with all groups and associations that pursue the same goals.
The MMTC brings together national and regional organizations with the aim of promoting exchange and collaboration among them. It offers an international forum for sharing experiences and analyses. In our globalized world, an increasing number of decisions are made at an international level. Workers’ demands often transcend the boundaries of their workplace and even their country.
For this reason, the MMTC defends the demands of its member organizations internationally. And, whenever possible, it does so to achieve joint action in collaboration with other organizations, because the MMTC wants to globalize solidarity! As a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the MMTC enjoys consultative status with various United Nations organizations (International Labour Office, UNESCO, ECOSOC).
The WMCW was set up in 1966. Today, it brings together more than 50 affiliated organizations from four continents. Its member organizations promote the interests of all those who rely upon their work or for their income, whether formally or informally.
